Series 1: Episode 1: The Wood In Danger
In the first episode, we are introduced to the main characters in the series: Badger, Fox, Weasel, Owl, Kestrel, and Toad. The wood has been developed for a housing estate for many years and most of it is now gone. The animals are on the brink of losing their home. To make matters worse, there hasn't been any rain for a month. Toad's pond, the last remaining water-hole has been filled in by the humans, so unless a new source of water is found, the animals will die of thirst.
To find a solution to their problems, the animals agree to hold a meeting at Badger's sett at sun-down. Toad, who was thought lost to the woodland community as he had been taken away by children the spring before to be kept as a pet, is the last to arrive and provides a solution to their dilemma - that the entire community of creatures travel to a nature reserve called White Deer Park that Toad discovered and stayed at for while after escaping his captivity before resuming his back to the pond where he was born.
As the community is diverse and includes animals that would normally hunt the others for food, the animals swear an Oath of Mutual Protection to help, and protect each other (and, the case of the predators not to eat the animals that they normally would), on the perilous journey to their new home.
